About Us

Hell ‘N’ Back Welding Ltd. was founded in 2004 by journeyman “B” Pressure weldor Doug Thompson. After managing welding shops across Alberta from Calgary to Peace River, Doug decided to go into business for himself, and Hell ‘N’ Back was born. Although we started with a single portable welding truck, the company has grown to include a full welding and blacksmith shop and several portable rigs.

We go to hell ‘n’ back to get the job done right!
From the beginning, Hell ‘N’ Back hasn’t been afraid to stand out in the crowd, and the company’s distinctive pin-up bomber art logo and hand painted flamed out welding trucks show the company’s commitment to customization. When you stick out as much as we do, you’d better be good, and over the last decade Hell ‘N’ Back has built a stainless reputation for quality and customer service.

We’re known for combining old world craftsmanship with the cutting edge ideas and techniques of today, and there’s almost nothing our elite crew of fully certified CWB structural and B pressure welders can’t do.

Emergency Repairs
We know our clients can’t afford to have expensive downtime, so we offer 24/7 emergency services. Whether you’ve got a broken combine in the middle of a farmer’s field or a leaky tanker truck on an oilfield site, we can fix the problem and get you back up and running. No metal is too rare, no code is too restrictive. We’re also the last resort for repairs that have been made multiple times but have somehow never been fixed properly; we can fix it right so that it STAYS fixed.

Heavy Equipment & Trucks
From lugging Caterpillars for winter work, to agricultural equipment like combines, to semi truck rig ups and aluminum tank repairs, we regularly work on all kinds of trucks and heavy equipment. Call us if you have a project or need to get your equipment back up and running.

Custom Product & Weldment Design
Do you have an idea but don’t know how to make it a reality? We offer custom design services, using our decades of experience building with metal to take your idea from concept to full prints. Unlike many engineers, we know what metals work best for the best price, and how to not just design a product, but design it for manufacturing. Along with our usual drafting services, we now offer the option to create photorealistic 3D designs and blueprints using the SolidWorks computer program. Let us show you what your idea will look like when complete, even if you can’t read blueprints yourself. Then let us help you make the design a reality.

Custom Fabrication
If you have an idea, we can build it for you. Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind prototype, an architectural project for your home, or multiple large pieces of industrial equipment, we can custom fabricate whatever you need in our welding shop and do it to the proper codes. See our Projects page for some examples of custom projects we’ve completed in the past, and then contact us for a free quote. In general, we require a 50% deposit on any custom work.

Wrought Iron & Metal Art
We employ blacksmiths with a knowledge of metalworking techniques from over 100 years ago up until the present day and a passion for using scrap iron, copper, aluminum, and more to create beautiful pieces of metal art. Our Bete Noire Forge division produces hand-made steel art products, such as our popular line of Undying Roses.
